Please take a lesson...

By day I'm an Account Manager that sells Internet marketing solutions...

it amazes me how many people decide to build there own website or have a Buddie do it. I always take the "edu-tainer" route and give people all the information they need and tools necc. to get the job done. How ever this doesn't always ensure success.

Having had many car issues, I brought my vech. to my local mechanic, when my pet was injured I brought him to the vet. And if I need financial advice I see my financial advisor....You can see where I'm going with this...

People...really there are such things as snow sports instructors. These fine, well mannered folks will deff. take quite a bit of the fear, lumps & bumps out of things. Although theres no guarantee you won't take a fall or two while learning  my point....it's better than just winging it.

At any rate these people get paid to instruct, there not just winging it and trying to tell you how to ski or ride based on how they learned. I'm not sure that your aware but, in preseason mode there are many hours spent clincing and getting ready for the busy winter teaching season. Not only do they know what to say...but how to safely and effective get you to success !!! (learning to ski or ride)

 Considering to get out on the snow to ski or ride for the first time? Please take a lesson.

Getting the "Stoke" back....

I often find that once in a while in my action packed life taking some much needed down time is good. I recently have come off of a week rest/break and feel like a million bucks. Not for nothing but it just gave me that much needed recharge to remember exactly what's importan. LOL...spending quality time with the family no doubt is KEY!!! The other main thing is to reconnect with your sport..."ok,so why do I love doing this so much again?"Bottom...line each of us can benefit from a break now &t hen. I'm very much looking forward to doing some more cycling...especially come cx season.Fall here in upstate hands down is my favorite time of the year to be out there pedaling. So with that being said I hope everyone is having an excellent season...let's a promise to help each other keep the "stoke" and never forget how fun riding is!!!

Winter time blues??? Make a list!!!

While your frantically scrambling to finish up all of the summer wish lists items..Please don’t forget about winter. Yes I did say winter. Problem is with most folks they’re not even considering purchasing new equipment this time of the year.. So now what?
 Trying making a list of the equipment you currently own. Then make another list of equipment you may be looking to purchase. This helps you get a better scope of the holes on your “quiver” .  Based on your lists’ ask a few of your “guru” friends on their suggestions / recommendations of where you should be spending your hard earned cash.
Now once you have a fairly good idea of your equipment needs start looking now for those deals / close out etc. This time of the year your local ski / snowboard shop will gladly welcome your business!! Not only that... you'll be able to get the one on one customers service that your deserve. Not crowds, no lines…etc!! Sounds good to me!! Well good luck and happy shopping!!

Buying a bicycle...simplified.

Finally, we can all sit back and say summer is hopefully on it's way right? Well at least were not shoveling snow out in the drive way here in Upstate. As many of your are considering purchasing a "new/used" bicycle...here are a few helpful tips;

  1. A good bike is not free, a free bike is not good...relatively speaking please take caution on the Craig's list  / Internet "deals of a life time. More often then not just as with anything you encounter in life...if the price seems a bit of sku, something might be up. Odds are you'll fair often much better giving your local bike shop the business. (New bikes come with warrantee, plus you get the satisfaction of the friendly customer service & advice)
  2. Life hands you lemons, make lemonade; Keeping your eyes peeled for a "fixer upper" is always good business in my mind. Alot of your friends, aunts, or uncle may have a bicycle their not even riding any more. (catch is if your related usually that means a good deal for you).Nothing makes a bike ride better than the old adage; "Air in the tires, lube on the chain". I'm not saying this is going to solve every solution BUT for the most part...a good starting point to get you out there and riding. Consider having your local bike shop inspect the bike and make sure it is functioning properly.
  3. Champagne tastes, Budweiser budget; Being realistic with the type of riding your going to be doing a majority of the time is key. For example if your going to be spending a fair amount of time riding around the neigh boor hood with the kids... then a full~suspension down hill bike doesn't make much sense. When purhcasing a bike please realize...as it as an investment in your HEALTH & WELLNESS. don't want to buy the "cheapest"?? but at the same time have a budget?? That's a good thing...My advice here is having a defined budget gets you looking at the right products etc.
  4. Everyone knows a "Bike Guy"; Yep you know who "that guy" is...bicycles on the brain 247. Odds are you ask him / her a question..your going to get good answers and then some. They may not exactly be the answers that are going to better help you purchase.... certainty may give you more food for thought in finalizing your purchase decisions.
Good luck there's a good starting point. Any questions please give me a shout, I always enjoy hearing from you folks. Thanks again for all of the recent flurrie of e-mail questions in regards to this topic. Have an excellent weekend.

The Crusher....

Pretty much any bike race / event that has "The Crusher" in it's title has to be a tough one!! After checking out this  blog  about bike choice etc. I'm all about quoting Grizzly Adam; (folks asking which bike to ride for Leadville)  "People are still arguing about 29ers, singlespeeds, and 29er singelspeeds. Hardtail or full suspension?"
His reply: (which I think is spot on btw)The answer to that question is always the same: whichever bike you want.

Which bike should you ride today, right now, or tomorrow?? Does it really matter , the point here is your riding! Yes that even makes you a "cyclist" yeah for you :o)

Tour De Cure...training ride awakes the sleeping rider within!!!

Ok, so the first thing I can say is YES, I'm alive. Second well, I owe you folks a great big apology & gratitude for nudging me to get back into Blog mode. Spent this past winter coaching snowboarding at a local resort near by. As you can imagine being on snow six days a week...well last thing I wanted to do was ride a bike. (yep never thought you would hear those words spoken).

True is this blog was something all together that I was going to stop doing, I felt it really was a waste of everyones time. Then it occurred to me... if I'm not spatter out all of this useless bullshit week to week etc...then people that really care won't keep reading it. Funny thing is people are intriguing creatures of habit, they keep coming back for more. Well more, meaning..more insight, more helpful & insightive information. Which is where I come in. I'm just like most of you out there, I have my ups & downs...I have my personal highs, and yes the lows as well.I have my opinions & preferences, which may not always sync with yours btw. It's just the way it is quite honestly.

You can tell yourself that your not going to be bothered by what I have to say..truth is I need you. Yep. sounds crazy right, I'm constantly thinking of different ways I can stay connect to my audience out there. Most of my close friends will tell you....give this kid a mirror and a micro phone and hes good to go for weeks. At any rate...I'm really sorry for being such a horse's ass an not keeping up with this blog. Yes I was busy, and busy and busy who insn't right?..well that's all fine and good but.... no blogs were happening!!!

You want it you got it...I'm back on the bike for the first time in weeks, thanks to a good friend of mine by the name of Tom Deroller for the push (took a pretty intense crash in the snowboard park almost a month ago). Feeling much better, lead a local Tour De Cure ride for some friends..felt really good to give for a change. I like it and want to deff. do more.

 Really pumped on my new gig, I work for Biznetix , really cool local company that's doing some neat stuff with web design etc. Also, I'm super stoked to be riding for the folks over at TryonBike...all you ROC local peeps please be sure to stop into their new 150 N. Winton location!! More to come thanks agian for the feedback..see you on the trail!!

2011 Rome Folsom Delivers!!!

Wow...has it been an Epic winter for you folks or what!? One minute the mountains are opening next thing you know were in the woods getting after the hidden powder stashes!!!

Spending six days on the snow a week you can pretty much imagine I most certainly put equipment through the ringer. When it comes to boots...it's not uncommon to pack-out at least two pairs a season! Yes, I did say two pairs. First pair that I have already retired...I shall not name names, but in a suprising two month time frame....tapped out! (FAIL). It's not very enjoyable to be out there riding only to have your boot's feel like a pair of Mr. Cleaver's slippers. Now I can happily segway to our snow sliding subject matter;
2011 Rome Folsom Boot.

First thing I noticed about this boot was Rome's crazy attention to detail. From the logo ed lace eyelets, to the insanely clever toe traction tread pattern, and the super toasty Out-last liner. I was in love with the heel cup and fit right out of the box. The user friendly lace system made getting out the shred the am gnarr a walk in the park! This is hand down an excellent all-mountain boot that is very much at home no matter what you throw in it's path. I would not necessarily say that this boot is going to perform most optimally for those of you jibber - tweaker types. (Flex pattern is on the stiffer side). Another added bonus to rider comfort was the addition shock cushion heel. This was no doubt put to good use a few times on some of those harder big "booter" landings (nice touch Rome). In closing; weather your an all mountain ripper or a weekend piste & park destroyer..the Rome Folsom Gets-R-Done. This shred staple should most certainly be on your list of must haves for 2011. So with that said stop into your local shop and hook your self up..not only will be stoked but your feet will deff. thank you. Enjoy the ride!!!

Rome Mod

After the many years of searching for THE board, Rome's Mod delivers!! From the lift line to the jump line and even the pipe...this board just kept asking for more. To my surprise I found that the Mod with bindings was amazingly light...in fact lighter that my Rome Graft 157 w/o bindings. Loved the super fast based..really kept me on my A game while doing some serious all mountain shred. Super stable at high speeds...no chatter..& very smooth buttery edge transitions. To the bumps & crude...well was just another day for the MOD, effortless edge change as well & plenty of power & ollie pop from the tail when needed. In the park this board even in a 58cm was surprisingly quick and nimble to slay any jibs / fun boxes in it's way!! Camber for the effortless ollie pop up the table top & kickers was a delight as well. If your looking for the Ferrari of the snowboards ...look no more!! The Rome Mod is a hands down winner for me!!

Dry & cracked winter hand solution

Between the mariot of winter riding & sliding activities, I had realized my hands were shot!!! Having sweaty gloves on your hands for hours at a time...this really does not sound appealing to anyone. To no avail I tried a multitude of solutions only to find the obvious was right in front of me...(well not exactly...snicker, snicker). Had a good industry friend of mine actually suggest using chamois cream! I was a bit taken back at first considering what the intended use of the said product is. At any rate I did give it a week or so try. Yes...to my surprise,,,those cracked & dry hands were no longer an issue believe it or not. Bottom line (sorry had to go there) apparently it's the lanolin in the creme that speeds up the healing process. Now folks...you have to use a bit of common sense here..hopefully there's not to many double dippers out there (you know who you are). When applied to dry & cracked winter hands chamois creme does an surprising good job. Give it a try and please feel free to get back to me, I'd love to hear your feedback.
